So another Olympics has come and gone and I for one am saddened by its departure. Ever since I was a kid I've always looked forward to the Olympics not because I cared about what the outcome was but because it was always exciting to watch no matter what was being aired. The Olympics always seemed to bring out the good in people where even though it's country against country every seems to respect one another because in the end their all athletes. The surge of pride that flows through you when you watch as Canada gets gold is something only a Canadian would feel. That's not saying I feel hatred against another athlete or their country when they beat us to the gold. The expression on their face and the feeling you get when you try to think of how that country must be feeling is something that warms the heart. That athlete receiving the highest honour that any athlete can receive must feel great.
Every Olympics has their star players and this time around is no exception. For the Americans the obvious one is Micheal Phelps who was the swimming star that no one could keep up with winning 8 medals a new record.
Another athlete that made a huge impact on the Olympics was a a 21 year named Usain Bolt who ran the men's 100 meter dash in 9.69 seconds a new world record. Not Only that he later broke the 200 meter world record running a time of 19.30 making that two world records hes beaten in under a week. Usain is part of the group of runners who call themselves The sprint factory from Jamaica. He was able to not only out run everyone in the men's 100 meter dash in a world record time of 9.69 seconds but his shoe lace was untied.

Overall Canada did really well at these games receiving 18 medals and placing 19th overall in the world standings. Not bad for a country whose never given out incentives for receiving any medals until just this year or having a government backed program to get our athletes on the podium until just after the last games in Greece. All the Athletes did their best and no one was hurt physically which is all we can ask for.
On another note the Taekwondo matches were boring beyond boring. Ever since last year when they revised the rules sparring matches seem to now be all about farming points. Of all the Taekwondo matches I watched during these Olympic games there was probably a average of one head shot attempt which is quite low. I realize their trying to conserve energy since they have to endure three 2 minute rounds but still everyone ,even the Koreans, are too defensive. Which makes for a boring Olympic event, as a result Taekwondo might be pulled from the line up like baseball, and no one wants that.
